Continental ContiSportContact 5 SSR OVERVIEW The Continental ContiSportContact 5 SSR (*) is a high performance summer run flat tire manufactured for passenger vehicles and SUVs. It is the original equipment tire of select BMW vehicle models. This tire is for the front axle position. This model is EV compatible.This summer tire offers excellent dry and wet weather traction. The only time it is not recommended to use this tire is in the winter. The colder temperatures make the tire lose its great road gripping ability, and this results in unsafe driving conditions. The tire’s wide circumferential tread grooves help disperse water from below the footprint, and this way the tire resists hydroplaning in dangerous situations.The tire was manufactured using the SSR, or Self Supporting Runflat, Technology, which provides temporary restricted mobility for 50 miles and up to 50 mph after the loss of air pressure. It is important that vehicles without space for a spare tire have run flat tires mounted on them, as in the case of a puncture or other air pressure loss, the driver will not be stranded at the side of the road. Instead, they will be able to get to a safe destination where they can change or repair the tire. Run flat tires are heavier than regular tires, as their sidewalls are reinforced to support the weight of the vehicle and the passengers. Due to the difference in weight, regular tires and run flat tires cannot be used together on the same vehicle.The reinforced structure of the tire offers extra stability at high speeds, while the Black Chili compound enhances the acceleration of the tire. The better performing capability along with the enhanced braking and cornering ability provide improved performance. The compound used in making the tire provides additional biting edges, improving its cornering ability and power. At the moment of braking the compound generates heat, which shortens the tire’s braking distance considerably. These factors make the tire more controllable.The ContiSportContact 5 SSR (*) offers a reduced rolling resistance thanks to the Black Chili powder used in its manufacture. The lower resistance enables the tire to lower the vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, making the tire more economical.Manufacturers recommend changing tires every 10 years. As long as tires are properly stored before they are sold, the year of their manufacture will not shorten their service life.
